[Film Review] Monster House

Since it's spooktober, I want to review one of my favorite horror movies; Monster House!

Monster House is an American animated supernatural horror comedy film directed by Gil Kenan. It was released theatrically by Sony Pictures Releasing on July 21, 2006. As mentioned in the first sentence of this paragraph, the genres of Monster House are supernatural horror and comedy; nonetheless, it leans more towards the supernatural horror genre.

This movie tells the story of a mysterious house owned by Dustin James (DJ) Walters' neighbor, a fierce old man named Horace Nebbercracker, who scolds anyone daring to enter his house. Long story short, DJ learns that Nebbercracker's house is a rare type of monster, which can only be defeated by destroying its heart. One day, DJ and his friends, Chowder and Jenny, become trapped inside the house. There, they search for ways to escape and trying to kill the monster.

The DJ character is voiced by Mitchel Musso, an American actor and singer known for his roles as Oliver Oken in Hannah Montana, Jeremy Johnson in Phineas and Ferb, and King Brady on Pair of Kings. Mitchel Musso performed well alongside Sam Lerner as Chowder and Spencer Locke as Jenny. The ability of these adult voice actors to portray teenager characters was particularly impressive.

What I like about Monster House is how it can make the viewers scared with its jump scares. The plot of the movie is also very interesting and quite unpredictable, managing to keep viewers attentive throughout each moment, ensuring they don't miss any details. There is nothing I dislike about this movie, except possibly that some people might find the scene where DJ and his friends are trapped in the Monster House is disturbing due to its graphic visuals.

Despite mentioning that some individuals might be disturbed by the scene involving DJ and his friends being trapped inside the Monster House, I genuinely enjoy that part. Additionally, the scene where DJ, Chowder, and Jenny attempt to destroy the house is another favorite of mine. This thrilling scene leaves me both exhilarated and emotionally moved afterward.

In my opinion, Monster House is very exciting because it brings up a thrilling feeling—especially among children; it feels like a nightmare—and the comedy is also enjoyable. I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because I truly love this movie. Anyways, Monster House can be streamed on Netflix
